Upper WharfedaleTo contents

Due to the size of  Wharfedale I have split the area into two sections Upper Wharfedale (here) and Lower Wharfedale as a separate page, the dividing line being just north of Grassington. Upper Wharfedale includes Langstrothdale and Littondale for these purposes. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales with over touristed areas such as Kettlewell  but some surprisingly under-walked areas to be found.

Map reading is essential for these walks. Relevant maps are OS Outdoor Leisure 2 Southern & Western areas (double sided map) and Outdoor Leisure 30 Northern & Central areas (double sided)

There are several bus services in Wharfedale, including a daily hourly service between Skipton and Grassington, with some buses continuing to Buckden. On Mondays to Saturdays there is a two-hourly service from Ilkley to Grassington. On Sundays, and some Tuesdays and Saturdays in summer, Dalesbus services run from West Yorkshire via Wharfedale to Hawes. See www.dalesbus.org for details.

Important note:- Whilst the author has taken every care in assembling the information on this site, no responsibility can be accepted for any error or omission herein. If in any doubt walkers should consult the relevant OS map.
