  • Path up Whernside

From Bentham Station proceed along the road into the town. Turn right at the main street and then left along minor road (towards Ingleton). After 1/4 mile (after road junction) look for footpath on right. Follow path across field and then well signed path across golf course (watch out for flying golf balls!) to reach Dumb Tom's Lane. Cross lane and field to reach Aspland Beck situated in a dip surrounded by gorse (look for footbridge). At other side of beck cross further fields, eventually reaching Fordales House and thence along minor road to Ingleton (3 miles from Bentham).

  • Grassy path up Whernside

Turn left along main road for a short distance and then right into Ingleton Village. Take road on left (just before church) and proceed downhill to bridge. Turn right after bridge and proceed along minor road rising uphill. After ½mile bear left onto gated farm road and upon reaching Twistleton hamlet turn left along track. After a short distance bear right onto a grassy track rising up the hill. This then bears sharply right. Continue to top scar bearing left at fork in path. The route crosses limestone  scenery almost on the level. Do not  follow main path across the scar but look for dry stone wall on left. The route follows a grassy path alongside this wall for nearly 4 miles to reach the summit of Whernside.
